Ginga Dude has proved that he is not too old to compete in Australia’s premier racing events by winning the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup at Eagle Farm today.

The rising nine-year-old was steered to victory by a perfect ride from jockey Hugh Bowman, who had just won the last race aboard Firebolt.

It was the second win of the winter for Ginga Dude, who claimed victory in the Listed Member’s Quality Handicap at Eagle Farm in April.

Since then, the Istidaad gelding has constantly featured in the finish of each of his three Brisbane race starts.

“He’s been knocking on the door. It’s very exciting,” trainer Graeme Boyd said.

“Hugh (Bowman) just rode him so beautifully, he’s just a master.”

Ginga Dude’s most recent result was a fifth placing in the Listed Ipswich Cup earlier this month after copping a heavy hit from another runner as he rounded the final turn.

“(It was a) very good run. (He) got a nasty bump on the corner of course,” Boyd said of his last run.

“I must say this is a surprise today though.”

The gelding is expected to feature heavily in the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival after his promising winter campaign.

“He goes to the paddock tomorrow,” Boyd said.

“I’ll go back to Coffs Harbor and prepare him on the beach there and bring him back to Sydney for the spring.

“I’ll just give him 3 or 4 weeks off.”

Ginga Dude has won 15 of his 53 career starts and has earned more than $1.1 million in prize earnings.
