Sydney’s leading jockey Nash Rawiller will miss the rest of the Sydney Summer Carnival and possibly the Jeep Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast in January after sustaining a broken ankle in a barrier mishap at the Rosehill trials this morning.
Rawiller was aboard the unraced Recharging To Win in heat 6 when the two year old played up in the barriers, jamming Rawiller’s ankle up against the side of the gates.
The on course ambulance transported Rawiller to the Westmead Hospital where X-rays confirmed a break in his right ankle.
“X-rays have confirmed Nash has fractured his right ankle and doctors are now conducting scans to determine the treatment,” Maurice Logue, Racing New South Wales safety officer said.
Rawiller was currently serving a careless riding suspension incurred last Saturday at Rosehill and was to return to race riding on the December 29 missing the Villiers meeting at Warwick Farm this week but will now be out indefinitely.
Last season’s leading Group 1 rider is currently sharing the lead in the Sydney jockey’s premiership with Glyn Schofield on twenty-six wins and kept the winners flowing last Saturday on Samui Lad for Gai Waterhouse.
Rawiller teamed up with Waterhouse to take all before then in the Sydney Autumn Carnival this year winning six Group 1s, courtesy of two year old Grand Slam winner Pierro, Laser Hawk and super mare More Joyous but the powerful Sydney combination came away from the Melbourne Spring Carnival empty handed.
