Mark Riley’s filly I’m Too Sexy is on target for the $2m Jeep Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 12 with an effortless win in a Gold Coast barrier trial today.
I’m Too Sexy shot to the top of the order of entry for the two year old classic with a first up three lengths win in the $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat on November 25, picking up a $122,000 winning cheque.
Riley shipped the Reaan filly straight to the Gold Coast after that win and the two year old showed today that she has lost none of her zip with a three length win over 1000m in the fastest two year old trial of the day.
Riley has pencilled in the Group 3 $150,000 B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 29 as I’m Too Sexy’s final Magic Millions lead up and is sure to run into a strong field of two year olds heading for the same goal.
“We’ll run in that Group 3 race at Doomben two weeks before the Magic Millions,” Riley said.
The Mornington trainer only paid $30,000 for I’m Too Sexy at the 2012 Adelaide Magic Millions sales in March after her half- brother Stralia had shown the stable above average ability before winning his first two race starts in July.
“I had already trialled Stralia and we knew how good he was, but having said that, she was a lovely filly at the sales and we had no hesitation in buying her,” Riley said
The Liam Birchley trained Missy Longstocking moved into second spot in the order of entry winning her third race from as many starts at Eagle Farm last Saturday taking her qualifying prizemoney to $102,500.
Even though Missy Longstocking wasn’t as impressive as her previous seven lengths Eagle Farm victory, winning rider Damian Browne has put his faith in Birchley’s assessment that the Sequalo filly has plenty of improvement left in her.
“If she had been at her top then we would be worried, because she can’t win the Millions going on that,” Browne said.
“But Liam was very clear she was nowhere near her top and that was borne out in the way she raced.
“Last time she just did everything perfectly and was totally relaxed. This time she was a bit revved up and over raced too.”
Other weekend winners to cement a spot in the Magic Millions field are Eagle Farm winner Sir Luminar and Rosehill two year old winner Regimental Pride.
Rosehill trainer David Payne will back Regimental Pride up at Wyong on Thursday in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1100m) to gain valuable race experience before heading to the Gold Coast.
“He’s not a bad horse, he still doesn’t know what he’s doing,” Payne said.
“If he comes through it okay today we’ll back him up on Thursday then up to the Gold Coast in January.”
