Time For War responded to the addition of blinkers to lead all of the way to win the Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben today.

The Gerald Ryan trained Time For War was always well back in the field two weeks ago when tenth to Brazen Beau in the Group 2 $175,000 Bollinger Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben.

But today with the blinkers on the Snitzel colt had his mind on the job and scooted along in front and now puts himself in contention for the Group 1 $500,000 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm in two weeks time.

“We will have to look at it now. We will see how the horse pulls up,” stable representative Sterling Alexiou said.

“He jumped to the lead today and he ran up to what he was showing coming into the Slipper. He won the Pago Pago and ran fourth in the Sires.”

“It was just about him doing the right thing. He has been a bit Jekyll and Hyde lately but what he has shown us at home he has got good ability, it is just a matter of coming to race day and bringing it with him.”

The unlucky runner of the race was the Chris Waller trained favourite  Brazen Beau ($1.85) who bungled the start but was still able to run Time For War ($18) to a neck at the finish with Looks Like The Cat ($6.50) running another brave race to finish third.

Winning jockey Tye Angland was having has first at Doomben for four years and was happy to ride a Group 2 so soon after returning from riding in Hong Kong.

Angland said that Time For War has plenty of ability and is capabale off competing at Group 1 level if he continues to be well mannered.

“He can win those sort of races if he just behaves,” Angland said.

“He has to put it all together and just behave and calm down. That’s when he runs his best races.”

While Angland is keen to get to the 1600m at Eagle Farm, Nash Rawiller can’t wait for the rematch with Brazen Beau who should have won today if he had stepped away cleanly.
