The lightly raced Steps In Time could fly under the radar a little bit in this weekend’s Tattersall’s Tiara and it wouldn’t surprise if she showed up a few of her more experienced opponents.

Steps In Time has had just the one start in Brisbane this prep and she made the most of it winning against a good field in the Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm on June 4th.

It wasn’t the easiest of runs either,  she had to contended with barrier 14 and come around the entire field.

It was a wonderful run given it was just her fourth career start.

She debuted in late December at Canterbury where she won easily as the favourite, from there  she spelled before coming back to the same track in April and running second.

She then moved across to  the Hawkesbury Guineas and came home third before her Brisbane campaign began.

Trainer John O’Shea says it’ll be a big test running in a Group 1 so early but he has the horse prepared  to make an impact.

“She trained on really nice as you’d expect (after the Daybreak Lover),” O’Shea said.

“They’re seasoned campaigners at the top of their game so they’re going to be difficult to beat.

“Probably the only thing against her is that she’s lightly raced and probably lacks a bit of seasoning.”

She’s shown in her last start that a barrier isn’t the be all and end all and for O’Shea he’d probably prefer she be out wider again rather than stuck on the rails.

“I think it’s better for her to draw out than in,” he said.

“I wouldn’t be concerned if she drew wide again because she can roll forward without any pressure.”

One thing in her favour is that she meets the mares a little bit better in weight , something O’Shea hopes will be a telling factor over the final furlong.

“The opposition that she meets on Saturday is far superior to what she met the other day, she’ll need every bit of that weight relief to be competitive on Saturday,” he said.

Riding Steps In Time in the Tattersall’s Tiara (Winter Stakes) will be in form jockey Christian Reith who travels up from Randwick.
