Trainer Peter Snowden is confident that Tatra will have the edge necessary to win this Saturday’s Group 2 Sandown Guineas in Victoria.

Tatra finished a close second to Lunar Rise in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes last start and is perfectly poised to take out the 1,600 metre Guineas at Sandown Racecourse.

The three-year-old has won two of his 10 race starts and has earned more than $220,000 in prize money.

Snowden is positive he can produce a win in the Sandown Guineas after a mixed spring racing carnival.

“He came down from Sydney in good form but raced really poorly in his first start here (in the UCI Stakes),” Paul Snowden said.

“He was on the wrong leg and wanted to hang so we freshened him up again ahead of his last start and he’s never looked better and hasn’t been going any better.

“He’s turned the corner big time and it’s pleasing to see because we know he’s a talented horse.”

Snowden will also line up stablemate Proverb in the Sandown Guineas, where he will attempt to win his second start this spring.

Proverb has not finished outside the placings in any four of his race starts this preparation, with his most recent result being a third in the Carbine Club Stakes.

Despite his great record, Snowden still rates Tatra as the more likely winner of Saturday’s $350,000 Sandown Guineas.

“The one thing with Proverb is that you can’t put him into a spot,” Paul Snowden said.

“We’ve tried to ride him more forward and he doesn’t have the finishing burst as he has when he’s ridden quieter.

“We’re still going to ride him where he’s comfortable early, whereas Tatra has a bit more adaptability and can lead or sit off the pace.

“But they are both good chances and are certainly going very well.”

Proverb has won two of his eight starts and has accumulated more than $150000 during his career.
