New Zealand mare Poste Restante will kick off her spring in Brisbane this Saturday, having her first start since a winter campaign that included a third-place finish to Brambles in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m).

Now trained by Desleigh Forster at Eagle Farm, the four-year-old will contest a Class 6 Handicap (1200m) at Doomben before a likely trip south with fellow Forster-trained runner Adebisi.

“She stayed here throughout the winter carnival and then she’s stayed on since then,” Forster said.

“She needs to start somewhere but she’s doing well and all things going well we’ll be looking to take her south along with Adebisi.”

Formerly trained by Howard Matthews, Poste Restante finished fourth in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) in March and also ran second in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic (2000m).

It will be no easy task for the daughter of Postponed first-up after drawing barrier 14 for a distance that is short of ideal.

“She’s a nice mare. This weekend might be a bit short for her but she’s going quite well,” Forster said.

“They might just be a bit nippy for her over 1200m but she’s doing really well and she’ll be running on.

“She’s going to go back from the wide alley but she’s got ability and I expect her to finish off nicely.”

Lightly-raced gelding I’m Cool, who won three of four starts during a debut campaign that began in July, is back in pre-training and will be targeted at a race during the Magic Millions carnival in January.
