Brilliant filly Najoom has overcome a minor leg injury and is flying on the tracks but is still a borderline case of making the final field in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The final sixteen horse field for the fillies and mares Group 1, the last for the 2014 – 2015 racing season,  will be released on Wednesday morning and the Gai Waterhouse trained Najoom is currently number nineteen in the order of entry.

The Northern Meteor filly created a huge impression with a stunning win in the Group 3 $125,000 Sita Australia Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben on May 23 which made her exempt from the ballot for the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) which was run at Doomben last Saturday week.

Because Najoom wasn’t in the original nominations for the Stradbroke Handicap, her connections paid a late entry fee of $30,000 to secure her place in the field and she was then installed as the favourite for the Winter Carnival glamour sprint.

But the filly’s Stradbroke Handicap hopes were dashed when she responded to treatment slower than expected to a minor leg cut early in the week.

An impressive barrier trial win over 1000m at the Gold Coast on June 9 and subsequent flashy trackwork has Najoom back on track for the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.

Ben Dorries from the Courier-Mail was on hand at Doomben trackwork this morning and reported that Najoom was one of the star workers.

“Najoom worked well this morning at Doomben and is the favourite for the Group 1 Tatts Tiara on the Gold Coast on Saturday,” Dorries wrote in his Courier-Mail column.

Tommy Berry was also on hand to ride Najoom this morning was also impressed with her work.

“Top class work from Najoom this morning at Doomben!!! Let’s bring on Saturday,” Berry tweeted.

The forecast of rain in the South East Queensland in the next couple of days and the prospect of a soft track at the Gold Coast will help the chances of Stradbroke Handicap winner Srikandi who has a two from two winning record on a heavy track.

The Ciaron Maher trained Srikandi has come through her maiden Group 1 win in top order and was also one of the stars at Doomben trackwork this morning.

Najoom heads the early market order for the Tattersall’s Club Tiara at $3.50 just ahead of Srikandi at $4, the Chris Waller trainer Catkins at $5 and Melbourne mare Lumosty at $6.
