Premier trainer Peter Moody’s main priority with champion mare Black Caviar is getting through Saturday’s CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield.
Black Caviar is shooting for her 18th straight win when she steps out in the Group1 $400,000 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and connections will then have a better idea of her future plans.
Moody meet with owners on Friday to discuss a program for Black Caviar which will culminate at Royal Ascot in June, but the rest of her campaign is still up in the air.
Managing owner Neil Werrett said Dubai is still up high in discussions but that her main mission is still Royal Ascot in England.
“Dubai is the highest on the priority list now,” Werrett said.
But Moody is still leaving his options open on the unbeaten mare’s overseas venture and said that Dubai has some negative aspects.
“The big negative against Dubai is she’s going to be away from home for three or four months.
“She’s going to be away from me, the jockeys, the staff, the vet, the farrier, the chiropractor.
“She’s going to have access to those facilities over there but it’s going to be a different scenario.
“She’s a mare that takes a fair bit of maintenance so that’s a big negative and there are a lot of great races here.”
If she did go to Dubai for the 1200m Golden Shaheen on the artificial Tapeta surface on March 31, Black Caviar would be on a direct flight from Australia and then a direct flight from Dubai to London.
Moody was able to gallop Black Caviar on the course proper at Caulfield on Saturday morning and was very happy with her workout.
“She had a canter around on the course proper. She worked nice,” Moody said.
