Jazz Song Set For Glenlogan Park Stakes

Trainer Mick Price has revealed that lightly-raced filly Jazz Song will begin her 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival campaign in the Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on May 24.

Jazz Song finished second behind Miracles Of Life in the 2014 Euclase Stakes at Morphettvile during the 2014 Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival.

Jazz Song made her racing debut with a win in the Wangaratta Motor Ground Maiden (1170m) on November 18 last year and was set for a spell in the paddock after finishing a disappointing seventh in the Hardings Hardware Handicap (1440m) at Caulfield on December 11

The Fastnet Rock filly was given a maiden opportunity at Group level in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 21 and scored an upset win at the massive odds of $50, but was unable to replicate that performance in the Listed Manihi Classic (1050m) at Morphettville on March 29 before returning to her best form with a second place finish behind Miracles Of Life in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 3.

Price told Sky Racing HQ that he has been happy with the form of Jazz Song this preparation and is hoping that the three-year-old can add some more black type to her growing racing resume in Brisbane before heading to the spelling paddock.

“She is a Group 2 placed and is a Group 3 winner,” Price said.

“They don’t have a high range of three-year-old fillies race just for that age group, but the fillies and mares races are well catered for her.

“She will go the Glenlogan Saturday week over 1350 and Damien (Oliver) will ride both her and Pressing.

“She is ok and we are taking her up there to give her a bit more experience.

“I was happy with her Adelaide runs and we will see if we can’t improve on her record up there.”

Jazz Song and stablemate Pressing arrived in Brisbane this morning after leaving Caulfield overnight and according to Price both horses had no issues during the lengthy journey and have settled in nicely to their new environment.

“They got picked up from Caulfield at 11 o’clock last night and they arrived at Tony Gollan’s about five o’clock this morning and it was a very good, quick, clean trip for the horses,” Price said.

Jazz Song has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7 and is a chance of contesting the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the same venue a fortnight later.
