Jazz Song is rated an outsider in 2014 Queensland Guineas betting markets, but trainer Mick Price believes that she is a winning chance in the Group 2 event at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Jazz Song started her autumn preparation with a win in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 21 and performed well in both the Listed Manihi Classic (1050m) and Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide before making her Brisbane racing debut with a fifth place finish behind Srikandi in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben last Saturday.
Price told Racing Ahead that his original plan was to run Jazz Song in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm next weekend, but has instead opted to back the daughter of Fastnet Rock up in the Queensland Guineas to avoid a potential clash with the likes of Red Tracer and Catkins.
“It is the first time that I have ever backed her up, which will be a bit of an experiment, but I wanted to dodge next week because I think that those good Group 1 mares like Red Tracer are going to be really hard to beat,” Price said.
“I think back to her own age, albeit colts, is going to be ok for her and she has drawn a good gate in a big field.
“She should have run third the other day but she got held up at a vital stage and I think that she can be very competitive.
“I don’t think that she can get any closer to those good mares next week and if we run her against her own age I think that is going to be a lot better for her.
“She will have a nice run in the race and I think that she will be a nice chance against them.”
Jazz Song will take on a capacity field in the 2014 Queensland Guineas and she is currently rated a $17 to record her second win at Group level this weekend.
C.S. Hayes Stakes winner Hucklebuck ($4.60) is currently favourite in 2014 Queensland Guineas betting markets, but there has also been support for Fred Best Classic winner Havana ($5.50), Gerald Ryan-trained Dothraki ($7), resuming Darley colt Agadir ($8) and New Zealand-trained filly Costa Viva ($9).
