Norsqui will have to step up in grade if he plans to win the Group 2 Adelaide Cup at Morphettville on Monday March 12.
The five-year-old gelding will be looking to recreate the events of his last start, when he won the Listed Mornington Cup by two and a half lengths.
The win earned him a spot in the prestigious $2.5 million Caulfield Cup, which will be run in October this year.
Norsqui, who has won seven of his 25 race starts, is trained at Broadmarsh Racecourse by Walter McShane.
The Matsqui gelding has proved himself to be in top form this preparation, finishing second to Geegees Blackflash in the Summer Cup in Hobart first-up, before posting a brave fifth in his next start.
Norsqui was subjected to a veterinary examination following the race, and then went on to win the Mornington Cup is sizzling style.
Despite his top form, Norsqui will have to dig deep while stepping up to Group level for the first time in the Adelaide Cup, after proving himself at stakes level last start.
The talented gelding, who has won more than $340,000 in prize money, will have to face up against Drunken Sailor in the Adelaide Cup.
Drunken Sailor, who finished second to Norsqui in the Mornington Cup last start, will be having his third race start for new trainer Michael Moroney in the race.
The seven-year-old was originally trained in the United Kingdom by Luca Cumani and was transferred permanently to the Moroney stables after his Melbourne Cup run last spring, where he finished a respectable 12th.
Drunken Sailor has earned a range of stakes titles in Great Britain, however, has never experienced the same success in Australia.
The Tendulkar gelding has won 10 of his 41 race starts and has earned more than $800,000 in prize money during his career.
Other talented runners to feature in the upcoming Adelaide Cup include Peter Moody’s Hanks, Michael Moroney’s Viking Hero and Grant William’s Western Jewel.
