The winning run of Gold Coast trainer Gillian Heinrich continued at Doomben today with Eastern Prince beating the short priced favourite Agitate in the Listed $100,000 Nuturf Queensland Day (1200m).

Heinrich trained a career best five winners at Ipswich on Wednesday and Eastern Prince with Nash Rawiller aboard was able to give the popular trainer another visit to the winner’s stall.

“It’s been six for the week. It’s been a fantastic week and I don’t think you will get a better one,” Heinrich said.

Heinrich had always held a high opinion of Eastern Prince and knew that he had the ability to win a race in the city.

“It was a really big effort by him,” Heinrich said.

“We’ve been waiting for this little horse a little bit. He has always going to be a later on horse and now he is starting to show his straps.”

“I have always liked him and I always thought he would be a town horse. I did think Kelly’s (Agitate) would be very hard to beat today and obviously they went very hard in front. And that’s why we won the race, not taking anything away from the horse, I am very happy with him.”

Rawiller was able to settle Eastern Prince just off the slick pace with the $2.20 favourite Agitate being taken on in front by Whiskey Allround and Flamboyer.

Agitate, with Damian Browne still sitting still, skipped away in the straight and looked set to make it back to back Doomben wins but the early speed battle took it’s toll and Eastern Prince ($26)  was able to grab the favourite close to the post with Le Val ($12) pushing through for third.
