The Black Caviar phenomenon is all systems go for England after the mighty mare continued on her winning way with her twenty-first straight victory in the Group 1 $500,000 The Distinctive Homes Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville today.
Trainer Peter Moody watched as the plan came together again with Luke Nolen hardly moving on the super sprinter in the run down the Morphettville straight in front of 30,000 cheering racegoers.
For the second time in two weeks Black Caviar has packed out Morphettville and in three weeks will leave for Great Britain to take on the best they have to offer in the Group 1 £500,000 The Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot on June 23.
Today’s win was Black Caviar’s eleventh Group 1 victory and Moody said that everything has gone as expected leading up to her trip overseas even though Nolen eased her down on the line to win by only a length and a half.
“A half an inch is enough,” Moody said.
“Luke would have looked after her, he was kind on her. We’re happy with where we’re at.”
“No one has given us any more for winning by big spaces. I think she’s run slightly quicker time than she did the other day, she’s in good shape and as long as she pulls up well we’ll be happy.”
Moody said that he enjoyed the Black Caviar moment like the rest of the 30,000 strong crowd but was happy and grateful to see her trotting back after the race in good condition.
“Everything has gone as expected. She’s done a good job, she’s where we want her so as long as she pleases us in the next three weeks we’re on the plane to England,” Moody said.
The plan now is float Black Caviar back to her Caulfield base and Moody will fine tune her to travel to England.
Nolen was one of the first out of the barriers and let the sprint Queen cruise along one off the fence outside the leader and under double wraps let her slide away on the corner to take up her permanent spot of first past the post.
As Nolen started to ease down the $1.05 favourite at the 100m, Michael Rodd stoked up We’re Gonna Rock ($26) to get to within a length and a half of the mighty mare, but under false pretences while Stirling Grove ($31) was a further three lengths away in third spot.
Nolen was very content with the result and said he would just enjoy today’s victory before moving on to England.
“We were never out of second gear,” Nolen said.
“Their was no plan. She travelled strongly today and she was back to the machine she was. As long as she wins, I’m happy.”
With today’s win Black Caviar climbs into second spot for the all time thoroughbred racing undefeated record behind Hungarian galloper Kincsem who put his fifty-four wins together in the 1880s.
