The curtain closes on the Group 1 action of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival this Saturday at Randwick with the running of the $1.5 million Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m), and all eyes are on the grey flash Briasa to potentially add another elite level victory to his autumn haul.

Trained by Team Hawkes, the four-year-old son of Toronado was a dominant force in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships, shouldering 58.5kg to a hard-fought but decisive win.
Now stepping up to 1400m third-up and at peak fitness, Briasa’s only other autumn outing was a close fourth fresh in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill.
Punters have installed Briasa as the $3.80 favourite at Ladbrokes, keen to see the consistent performer secure his eighth career win at just his tenth start.
The 1400m distance appears well within his capabilities, evidenced by his Group 2 The Hunter (1300m) victory at Newcastle last November.
This campaign has seen Briasa blossom into a genuine Group 1 contender, and he now aims to become the first horse since Trapeze Artist in 2018 to complete the prestigious TJ Smith Stakes / All Aged Stakes double.
Tyler Schiller retains the mount, guiding Briasa from the favourable barrier four.
The horse considered the main threat in All Aged Stakes betting is Ciaron Maher‘s gelding Jimmysstar, priced at $6.
The son of Per Incanto is also chasing his second Group 1 win of the autumn, having impressively overcome a wide gate to win the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Day.
His subsequent form in elite company has been solid, finishing third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at The Valley and then fourth to Briasa in the TJ Smith Stakes.
With winning form up to 1500m and a strong record over 1400m (7:2-3-0), Jimmysstar, with Ethan Brown aboard from barrier six, shapes as a genuine challenger looking to reverse the result from their last encounter.
The top end of the market is tightly contested, with two more runners also attracting single-figure quotes.
Chris Waller‘s Group 1-winning mare Joliestar is listed at $6.50 looking to continue the mares’ recent dominance in the race following Magic Time’s victory in 2024.
The Zoustar four-year-old is aiming to bounce back after finishing ninth in the TJ Smith Stakes.
Prior to that, she showcased her brilliance with a stylish win in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) down the Flemington straight, carrying 56kg, and was only two lengths behind the winner in the TJ.
In-form jockey Zac Lloyd takes the reins from barrier nine, seeking to deliver Waller his third All Aged Stakes victory.
Godolphin‘s talented three-year-old colt Broadsiding is also at $6.50, with money suggesting he could emulate the recent success of his age group in this race, following Giga Kick’s win in 2023.
The James Cummings-trained son of Too Darn Hot is in excellent form, having placed in the top two in all his lead-up runs this campaign, including a Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) victory over subsequent ATC Derby winner Aeliana.
While dropping significantly in distance, Broadsiding boasts an impressive 1400m record (4:3-0-1) and has the services of champion jockey James McDonald from an ideal barrier three, promising a dream run.
For punters seeking value at longer odds, the double-figure fancies include the defending champion Magic Time ($11), aiming to be the first back-to-back winner since Sunline (2000 & 2002), the Group 1-winning Brave Smash mare Kimochi ($13), and Tony Gollan‘s Queensland raider Antino ($14), who has drawn the coveted inside barrier.
The 2025 Schweppes All Aged Stakes is scheduled as Race 8 at Randwick, set to jump at 3:40pm (AEST) this Saturday.
