Three time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss has no doubt that the favourite Rich Enuff is the one to beat in the Group 1 $1m BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield today.

Trained at Cranbourne by Ken Keys, Rich Enuff has the form on the board with three wins from his last three starts which has seen him posted as the short priced favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au at $2.25.

But it is the favourable report that Boss has delivered in his Herald Sun column today that will give Rich Enuff’s followers extra confidence heading into the $1 million race for the three year olds.

Boss will be riding $12 chance Chivalry for trainer Mark Kavanagh and concedes that he will be running for second prizemoney if Rich Enuff can repeat his win in the Group 3 $175,000 BECK Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield two weeks ago.

“I can run second to Rich Enuff in today’s Caulfield Guineas, but I doubt I can beat him on Chivalry,” Boss wrote.

“I’m a confident sort of jockey, always finding a way I can win, but the other day Rich Enuff put in the best Guineas trial I’ve ever seen.”

“But it’s a race and it’s not over yet.”

Boss, who won the 2005 Caulfield Guineas on the Bart Cummings trained God’s Own, went on to say that Rich Enuff’s effort two weeks ago was outstanding and he was most impressed with the way the Written Tycoon colt had to do some work mid race before he put paid to the opposition in the straight to record a two and half lengths win over today’s rivals Looks Like The Cat.

“In the Prelude he worked up the hill, had the maturity to relax, then really put it to them,” Boss said.

“It was a winning trial, simple as that.”

“Rich Enuff is just a class animal, a big imposing, good looking, leggy sort of colt with the power to work up that Caulfield hill without busting a gut.”

Big race jockey Michael Rodd has been aboard Rich Enuff at his last two starts, including his win in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13, also beating Queensland three year old Looks Like The Cat.

And Rodd naturally agrees with Boss that Rich Enuff will give trainer Ken Keys his first taste of Group 1 glory going on their win in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.

“You can’t use many horses twice and that’s what I did on him last time,” Rodd said.

“He was used up early but still quickened up and ran away from them at the end.

“He’s a pretty special horse and if he comes out and wins the Guineas it will be pretty awesome.”

The latest market order for the Caulfield Guineas has Rich Enuff at $2.25, ahead of Shooting To Win at $6, Looks Like The Cat at $6.50, Almalad at $7.50 while Chivalry is a $12 chance.
