2011 Arc winner Danedream arrives for Japan Cup

The 2011 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream has arrived in Tokyo in good nick in preparation for the Japan Cup on Sunday week.

The Peter Schiergen-trained galloper is trying to tack on Japan’s premiere event to a wonderful season which has also included wins in the Italian Oaks,  Grosser Preis von Baden and  Grosser Preis von Berlin.

The German three year old filly has joined French gallopers  and Cup contenders Shareta and Sarah Lynx in the land of the rising sun

All three are eligible for the Japan Racing Association special bonus for winners of designated races and, in some cases, the runners up.

Danedream  (for Arc win) would get an extra 100 million yen ($1.3m), Shareta (Arc second) 40 million yen ($520,000) and Sarah Lynx (Canadian International win) 70 million yen ($910,000).

“It was a long haul but she looks fine,” said assistant trainer Ilke Hildebrand about Danedream.

Bred in Germany by Gestut Brummerhof, the star performer is co-owned by Gestut Burg Eberstein and Japan’s Teruya Yoshida.

Both Sarah Lynx and Shareta have also  settled in well.

Sarah Linx is trained by Chantilly-based John Hammond, the man who had great success with Montjeu and Suave Dancer, both Arc winners.

Hammond’s assistant Kate Bradley said the journey from Europe had gone well.

“She’s eating well and very happy,” she said.

“We’ll decide on the work menu every day after consulting with the trainer.”

Shareta is prepared by 2010 Melbourne Cup winning trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre for the Aga Khan.

“She’s very calm and quiet,” assistant trainer Jean-Michel Roux said.
