Four-year-old Sabrage has been left out of the Caulfield Cup’s 18 horse field this Saturday, after being relegated to first emergency.

The Charge Forward entire’s most recent results were deemed lesser than that of Moudre and Alcopop, who despite being equally balloted were assigned a spot in the race.

Sabrage has failed to finish better than fifth this spring carnival, with his first-up run resulting in an 11th placing in the $100,000 D Millson & B Nugent Handicap at Flemington Racecourse in August.

His most recent run was in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes, where he placed fifth behind winner Ocean Park.

While Sabrage failed to make the Caulfield Cup starting field, the 18 guaranteed runners are some of the highest quality in the race’s long history.

Glencadam Gold will be looking to remain undefeated in Australia when he lines up for the $2.5 million race.

The Refuse To Bend gelding has claimed victory in all four of his race starts since arriving in the country earlier this year, with his latest win coming in the Group 1 The Metropolitan.

The four-year-old is also nominated for the $3 million Cox Plate and $6 million Melbourne Cup this spring.

French stayer Dunaden will also be looking to keep his flawless race record alive in Australia when he runs in this Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

The six-year-old won the Geelong Cup and Melbourne Cup on his last trip Down Under, and will be having his first attempt at Caulfield Cup glory this weekend.

Dunaden will then head to Flemington where he will seek to successfully defend his Melbourne Cup title from last year.

The Nicobar entire’s most recent result was a sixth placing in the Group 1 King George And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at England’s Ascot Racecourse in July.

Last year’s winner Southern Speed will also contest this year’s Caulfield Cup in an attempt to claim back-to-back victories, while December Draw has returned from injury after missing last year’s event.

English galloper Gatewood will be forced to contest the Geelong Cup next week in order force his way into the Melbourne Cup field on November 6, after being assigned the position of second emergency for the Caulfield Cup.
