Dual Group 1 winner Descarado has been retired after failing to overcome a battle with injury.

Managing owners Racing Henderson revealed on twitter the six-year-old’s racing days are officially over after a frustrating 12 months where he has been kept on the sidelines with a leg issue.

“Descarado retired after 12 month leg issue, we could not get right. What a Favourite of ours. 2 G1 wins, G2 win, 3 G1 2nds,” Henderson Racing said.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding had an outstanding career, with his major career highlight coming in 2011 when he defeated Harris Tweed by a length to claim the Caulfield Cup.

A son of High Chaparral, Descarado was last seen on race day in October 2011 when he won the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes.

Other key performances included winning the Group 2 Hill Stakes and finishing runner-up in the Australian Derby and the Mackinnon Stakes.

Descarado had 21 career starts for five wins and seven minor placings and collected more than $2.5 million in prizemoney.
