The in-form Bowman added another Group 1 victory to his long list of wins at the highest level when he partnered Shoot Out to take out the Group 1 $350,000 George Main Stakes (1600m) earlier in the day.

Bowman always had the well supported Pampelonne in a winning position and after sitting outside the leader coming to the home turn, released the brakes at the 250m and held on to score by a neck from the fast finishing Satin Shoes.

“Very confident. He’s a quality galloper, lightly raced and he’s certainly got bigger things in stall,” Bowman said.

“The way he travelled in the race I couldn’t have been more confident topping the rise and when I let him down he really put them away. But he did start to feel the pinch and didn’t appreciate getting hit either because he ducked out with me there late.”

Winning trainer Tim Martin had some concerns leading up to the race wondering how Pampelonne would handle the older horses at his first run as a four year old.

“He’s very handy. It was always a concern the four year olds coming out of three year old grade, he’s handled it,” Martin said.

“He’s definitely improved.”

Martin will now head to Melbourne and has picked out a couple of nice sprints to suit the Rock Of Gibraltar gelding.

“We’re going straight to Melbourne. He may run on Caulfield Cup day, there’s a sprint there 1100m and also the Salinger. We just wait and see.”

The Group 2 $220,000 Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint (1100m) is run on Caulfield Cup day on October 20 then Martin will head to Flemington for the Group 2 $300,000 Yellowglen Stakes, formerly the Salinger over 1200m at Flemington on Derby Day.

Queenslander Spirt Of Boom caught the eye finishing fast down the middle of the track while race favourite Manawanui was never in the race and was reported to have bled and has been banned from racing for the mandatory three months for first time bleeders.
