Last start Gloaming Stakes winner Ace High headlines the fourteen nominations for the 2017 Group 1 $500,000 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The David Payne trained Ace High put himself into calculations for the Spring Champion Stakes with an all the way win in the Group 3 $200,000 James Boag’s Premium Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill on September 23.

Ace High was a one and a quarter lengths winner over Sanctioned who is one of two James Cummings trained colts nominations for the Spring Champion Stakes.

The Cummings trained Astoria is also entered and went around in the Gloaming Stakes finishing in fifth position.

Sydney’s leading trained Chris Waller has entered three for the Spring Champion Stakes, Augustus, Sambro and Tangled.

“We plan to run Tangled and Augustus,” Waller told AAP.

“Sambro is 50-50.”

Augustus ran seventh behind Ace High in the Gloaming Stakes while Sambro and Tangled finished third and fourth respectively in the Listed $125,000 Schweppes Dulcify Quality (1600m) at Randwick last Saturday.

Cranbourne based Kiwi co-trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have two three year olds nominated for the Spring Champion Stakes, last start Gloaming Stakes fourth placegetter Sully and the maiden galloper Johhny Vinko.

The strong Team Hawkes stable have entered the Dulcify Quality runner up Dissolution while the powerful Lindsay Park operation have Eshtiraak among the nominations.

Early betting for the Spring Champion Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au has Ace High as the $4.20 favourite just head of Sanctioned at $5.50 and Tangled at $6.50.
