Winx will have to overcome the outside barrier (10) if she is to break history in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday.
She will be shooting for her 18th Group 1 win and her second Queen Elizabeth Stakes in a row on day two of The Championships at Randwick on Saturday.
Nine horses will be taking on the champion mare with Doncaster winner Happy Clapper, who has drawn inside Winx in barrier 9 is the punter’s second elect in betting.
The Darren Weir trained Humidor, who ran Winx to within half a length in last year’s Cox Plate, has drawn the inside alley in gate 1 and will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy.
Except for her missing her planned first up run in the Apollo Stakes because of a Hugh Bowman suspension, Winx has had an identical preparation to this time last year when she won her first Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Darren Weir also saddles up Gailo Chop who steps back to the 2000 meters after he failed to place in the Tancred Stakes over the mile and a half last start.
Winx’s part owner Peter Tighe explained that Winx will be tipped out after her run in the Queen Elizabeth.
“We have no intention of running her after this. We’ll be happy to get this over and done with and get her out to spell,” he said.
