The momentum is building behind the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Sheza Alibi, with the flying filly firming toward odds-on favouritism to secure her fifth straight victory in Saturday’s 2026 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick.

The Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival reaches a fever pitch this weekend with four Group 1 features headlining Day 1 of The Championships.

The highlight is the $4 million Doncaster Mile (1600m), which has attracted a high-quality final field of 16 runners.

Topping the Doncaster Mile odds at $2 through Ladbrokes is the Saxon Warrior filly, Sheza Alibi.

She returns to the scene of her dominant Randwick Guineas triumph on March 7, where she famously outclassed the boys over this same track and trip.

Sheza Alibi is out to be the first Doncaster Mile winning filly since Sunline back in 1999!

Currently on a four-race winning streak, the three-year-old is looking to follow in the hoofbeats of Celestial Legend (2024) by completing the Randwick Guineas / Doncaster Mile double.

Despite drawing a tricky gate 13—a barrier that hasn’t produced a winner since Sacred Falls in 2014—punters remain confident in her ability to extend her picket fence form under jockey Jamie Melham.

History presents a significant hurdle: the legendary Sunline (1999) was the last filly to capture the Doncaster.

However, Sheza Alibi’s prospects are bolstered by a massive weight pull, dropping from 54.5kg in her last start to a featherweight 49kg on Saturday.

The primary threat on the second line of betting at $5.50 is the Chris Waller-trained Autumn Boy.

Drawing the fence in barrier one, the The Autumn Sun colt provides Waller with a golden opportunity to equal the all-time training record for the event, currently shared by Tommy Smith and Gai Waterhouse with seven wins each.

It has been a decade since Waller claimed his sixth Doncaster with Winx (2016), but Autumn Boy looks a live chance to break the drought.

Carrying 52kg, the Rosehill Guineas winner was the runner-up to Sheza Alibi in the Randwick Guineas before his dominant 2000m victory on March 21.

Bookmakers are keeping the Caulfield Guineas winner safe as he drops back to the mile.

Waller’s triple-pronged assault also includes the veteran Militarize ($51) and the more fancied Sixties ($13).

Despite being lumped with the carpark draw in barrier 16, Sixties remains a major player.

The Flying Artie colt has won three of his last four, including the Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill on March 14, proving his credentials for a high-pressure mile.

Also in the mix at $15.00 is the Joe Pride-trained Attica.

Another member of the strong three-year-old contingent, the Lonhro colt boasts an excellent Randwick record (3:2-0-1).

After finishing eighth behind Autumn Glow in the George Ryder Stakes, he returns to his preferred circuit and drops significantly in weight to 50kg.

With Andrew Adkins sticking from barrier three, he is primed for a bounce-back.

Other notable contenders in the 2026 line-up include Ciaron Maher’s topweight Gringotts ($17) carrying 58.5kg, Pride’s Headley Grange ($17), and the Bjorn Baker-trained Futurity Stakes winner Pericles ($19).

The 2026 Doncaster Mile is set to run as Randwick Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card.
