Leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody will give his smart filly Bring Me The Maid her chance in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday if she passes a trackwork test on Tuesday morning.

Bring Me The Maid was most disappointing as the short priced favourite at her latest outing when a lacklustre seventh to Afleet Esprit in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 28 but Moody is willing to give her chance at Group 1 level again if she performs well on the track.

“And so long as I’m happy with Bring Me The Maid at trackwork on Tuesday morning, she’ll go into the Thousand Guineas. She deserves her chance at Group 1 glory,” Moody told the Herald Sun.  

There were no obvious signs for the out of character run with race rider Luke Nolen failing to find any excuses for the below par performance.

“I don’t know. Hopefully a vet can reveal a little bit more. She just didn’t zip on that track but I don’t think it was down to the track. She’s either come to the end of it or I’m not sure,” Nolen said after the race.

But Moody and Racing Victoria Stewards could find no obvious signs for the disappointing run after the Thousand Caulfield Prelude prompting the leading Caulfield trainer to give her a final check at trackwork in the morning.

Bring Me The Maiden has failed at her last two starts as favourite but she had plenty of excuses when eight to Hallowed Crown in the Group 1 $1m De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 13.

On that occasion Nolen had the Sebring filly travelling sweetly just behind the leading bunch but  had no luck finding the way clear and while he was searching desperately for daylight, eventual winner and runner up Hallowed Crown and Scissor Kick came sailing down the outside.

Before that Bring Me The Maid looked set for a successful Spring Carnival after winning first up in the Group 2 $175,000 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 23.

Bring Me The Maid is still in contention in the Thousand Guineas market order with Ladbrokes.com.au and shares the third line of betting at $6.50 with Lindsay Park filly Afleet Esprit.

Adelaide filly Go Indy Go was elevated to the clear favourite at $4.20 after an eye catching run to finish third to Afleet Esprit in the Thousand Guineas Prelude with the Robert Smerdon trained late entry Lumosty at $6.
