The Darren Weir trained Trust In A Gust made it back to back Group 1 wins taking out the $400,000 David Jones NBCF Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield today.

Winning rider Brad Rawiller was back in the saddle today replacing Damian Lane after missing the win in the Group 1 $400,000 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a fortnight ago because he couldn’t get down to the 52kgs.

But back aboard Trust In A Gust ($4.60 favourite) today, Rawiller rode the perfect race and after settling the four year old behind the leader Solicit, he was able to take control in the straight and hold off the strong challengers of the fast finishing Speediness ($19) and $61 outsider Desert Jeuney.

Weir has brought Trust In A Gust along slowly, winning his way through the grades and has now developed into a tough top class handicapper.

“What a ride. What a good horse to train. Sound, tough, perfect sort of horse that trainers are looking for. It’s great,” Weir said.

“It’s been a great ride for a lot of people.”

“It’s big thrill. It took us along time to win a Group 1 and we’ve got a couple now with a great little horse.”

“The Emirates might be on the agenda. We will just get over today.”

Today’s win was Trust In A Gust’s tenth from seventeen starts, taking his prizemoney over the $1 million mark and Weir is likely to look for another Group 1 win in the Group 1 $1m Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 8.
