Stay With Me to secure Golden Slipper start in Reisling Stakes

Impeccably bred filly Stay With Me can secure a place in the Golden Slipper field with a win in the Group 2 $300,000 Guinness Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Stay With Me is by boom sire Street Cry out of 2006 Golden Slipper winner Miss Finland and trainer David Hayes would love nothing more than the filly to emulate her dam with a win in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 21.

A win in the Reisling Stakes will see Stay With Me secure a place in the richest two year race in the world which would please Hayes and co-trainer Tom Dabernig.

“If she wins, for sure,” Hayes told AAP.

“If she doesn’t win, there’s lots of lovely races around. There’s a $500,000 fillies’ race (Percy Sykes Stakes) or a Sires’ Produce Stakes or something like that.”

The Group 1 $1m ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) is run at Randwick on April 4, the first day of ‘The Championships’ while the Group 3 $500,000 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) for the fillies, also at Randwick, is run the following weekend.

Stay With Me has only raced once for a second to Pasadena Girl in the Listed $120,000 Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on February 21 and Hayes has indicated that she has improved since the run.

“If trackwork is any guide, she’s made significant improvement,” Hayes said.

“And that’s what her mother did.”

Hugh Bowman has picked up the ride on Stay With Me and the premiership winning jockey is certain to give her a dream run from barrier four in the nine horse field.

Stay With Me has opened up an $8 chance for the Reisling Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au who have the Gai Waterhouse trained filly English the early favourite at $3.

One time Golden Slipper favourite Ottoman is on the next line of betting at $4.40 ahead of the Gerald Ryan trained Fireworks at $5.50.

Waterhouse took English to Kembla Grange on January 31 for a debut three and a half lengths win in a 1000m Maiden and the Encosta De Lago filly has since scored a five and a quarter lengths win in 734m Randwick barrier trial on February 23.
