In the same week that Peter Moody lost Caulfield Cup third placegetter Lights Of Heaven to retirement, he may have found the horse to replace her.

Spirit Of Heaven, a three-quarter sister to the classy mare, made plenty reach for their black book after a stunning debut win in the Blue Diamond Nominate Now Plate (1000m) at Sandown on Wednesday.

Settling worse than midfield, Moody’s stable jockey didn’t ask the filly for an effort until well into the straight but when he did there was only going to be one winner.

The daughter of Savabeel quickly overtook her rivals before storming away for a 1 1/4 length win.

Moody admitted it is still far too early to tell how good the two-year-old may be but said the early signs were promising.

“It’s hard to take a line off today but regardless she’s going to be a nice filly and she’s going to be better suited at a mile [1600m], a mile and a quarter [2000m],” Moody told media after the race.

Victoria’s premier trainer said it was a particularly good effort considering she is still in her first preparation since arriving from New Zealand.

“We educated her in New Zealand, spelled her and came here and this is her first prep off the plane,” he said.

“A month ago we were thinking we’d probably trial her and put her out.”

Moody will be hoping the filly can achieve some of her big sister’s success, with Lights Of Heaven amassing a prize pool of $1.58 million from her eight career wins.
