Snitzerland has proven too good for her juvenile competitors in today’s $250,000 Inglis Premier at Mornington, which she won by four and a half lengths.

The Snitzel filly was having just the second career start in the race after finishing second by a nose to Applegate in the Listed Emirates Airline Plate in November last year.

Applegate finished eighth in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield earlier this month.

Snitzerland won the race ahead of Road Trippin, who placed second, and Repousser, who finished in third.

The Gerald Ryan-trained filly won her most recent trial in convincing fashion on February 7 at Rosehill over 900 metres.

Part owner Neil Werrett, who also owns a share of Black Caviar, was confident Snitzerland could win coming into today’s race.

“When she trialled the other morning, we got back and Corey said it was a really good trial,” Werrett said.

“I spoke to Gerald about bringing her to this race.

“The prize money that was put up was phenomenal.

“I’m very happy that it all worked out.”

Snitzerland was purchased for $125,000 from the 2011 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and has now won more than $165,000 in prize money.

The filly will now be targeted towards the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 7 at Rosehill.

“That was always the plan, so I’m just hopeful,” Werrett said.

“We’ll have a talk to Gerald and see where we go from there.”

Jockey Corey Brown came to Mornington specifically to ride Snitzerland in today’s Inglis Premier.

“They’re going to have a lot of fun with her,” Brown said after the race.

“She really impressed me, she’s got a long way to go, she’s still learning.

“I’ve never ridden a Slipper winner but as far as two year olds go she’s definitely got the feel.”
