Victorian mare Avienus is being treated for travel sickness after her flight to Perth in readiness for the Group 1 $1m Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 19.

The Mark Webb-trained six year old was rushed to a veterinarian clinic on landing late Tuesday night and is under observation.

Webb is confident of a full recovery and is pushing on with the daughter of Reset.

Webb will flies into Perth tomorrow and is likely to lightly work Avienus on Saturday.

“She didn’t have a great flight and got stressed right out,” Webb said.

“She was a bit dehydrated but was calmed down within about half an hour.

“It was her first flight and she hasn’t done a great deal of travel.

“She seems to be going well now and the vets are confident she’s all right.

“She hasn’t missed anything and thankfully coming back from 2000m, we don’t need to do much with her work-wise.

“Hopefully everything’s back on track.”

Avienus’s best run this spring was a closing second to Descarado in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes.

She was outclassed in when 13th to Pinker Pinker in the Cox Plate at $71 before an improved fourth to Vintedge in last Saturday’s Matriarch Stakes at Flemington.

In the Matriarch, Avienus was dragged back to last by Brad Rawiller after drawing wide on the track.

She closed to be within four lengths of the winner at the end.

Webb pointed to Tuesday’s barrier draw as the key to her chances in the Railway.

“With a good draw she can get a nice position in running and she’ll be a good chance,” Webb said.

Tattsbet are giving $13 about Avienus for the Railway with local galloper Ranger $4.40 ahead of the betting.

Ranger has gone up another notch since returning from a 35 week spell in Perth.

His three runs this campaign have all resulted in wins including last Saturday’s Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot when defying a betting drift and finishing strongly from near the tail.

By defeating Grand Nirvana, by two lengths with Waratah’s Secret (third) he delivered owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Peters their 100th Stakes victory.

Ranger overcame a 7kg swing in favour of Waratah’s Secret after he beat that horse narrowly the previous start in the Northerly Stakes (1400m).

The victory force Railway betting to be re-organized with Waratah’s Secret somewhat now out of favour at $16 and Grand Nirvana at $10.
