Raw Youngster Has Golden Rose in Sights

Tim Martin-trained colt Red Dynamite has made himself known as a possible Golden Rose contender after an explosive debut at Goulburn on Friday.

After previously impressing with two barrier trial wins, the rising three-year-old showed he was race ready when dominating his rivals with an impressive four-length win.

While Martin stopped short of declaring him ready to compete at Group 1 level, he will now set him on a path that will allow him every opportunity to gain a start in the $1 million Golden Rose.

The Rosehill-based trainer has pencilled in both the Listed Rosebud on August 11 and the Group 3 Run To The Rose on September 1 as the next races on the agenda for the son of Red Ransom.

“He’ll go to the Rosebud and we’ll see how good he is,” Martin said.

“He’ll then go to the Run To The Rose three weeks later.”

If the exciting youngster excels in the qualifying events, Martin said he would have no hesitation in testing him against some of the best three-year-olds in the country.

“If he gets through those two well we’ll definitely look at the Golden Rose. It’s his home track and the horse is flying,” he said.

Experienced jockey Corey Brown was on board for Red Dynamite’s debut and he said the horse had plenty of potential following the hit-out.

Also set to play a role for the Martin stable this spring is promising sprinter Pampelonne who won both the Gosford and Scone Guineas earlier this year.

The Rock Of Gibraltar gelding then finished sixth in his Group 1 debut in the Doomben 10,000 but won’t be tested at the elite level this spring.

Instead Martin will look towards the Group 2 Salinger Stakes as the major target for Pampelonne who will have just two spring starts.

“He’ll have one run at Caulfield and then his target will be the Salinger,” Martin said.

“He’s just come back into work last week and everything looks really good.”
