Flemington training partnership Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra will be looking to Spring Carnival success with new stable acquisition Kiwi filly Our Famous Eve.
The three year old filly will arrive at their Melbourne stables in time to prepare for the Spring and part owner and breeder Phillip Brown will be looking for more black type to enhance her future breeding potential.
Our Famous Eve is the winner of only two from eight starts but did manage to finish second to Chicharita in the Group 2 NZ$100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) for three year old fillies at Ellerslie on January 1.
And the Fast ‘N’ Famous filly ran a solid race when fifth to Shez Sinsational in the Group 1 NZ$200,000 Darci Brahma International Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa on February 11 when trained by Glenn Old at Matamata.
“Glenn has done a very good job with her and we’re happy with what she achieved in her three-year-old season,” Brown said.
“We just felt that the time was right to send her across to Melbourne where there’s any number of suitable races she could run in.”
“We’ve got other horses with Mathew and Simon and we’ve decided that this filly deserves her chance over there.”
Our Famous Eve is just another promising three year old to leave the shores of New Zealand and be transferred to an Australian trainer with Fastnet Rock colt Rock ‘N’ Pop already settled into Gai Waterhouse’s stable at Randwick.
Rock ‘N’ Pop beat home Our Famous Eve when third in the International Stakes and is the winner of three races including the Group 1 NZ$ 400,000 Sothy’s 39th New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton on November 5 last year.
Rock ‘N’ Pop made his first public appearance for Tulloch Lodge with a Randwick barrier trial win over 1050m for Nash Rawiller at today’s trial session and the top jockey was very impressed with the three year old.
“He settled in behind the speed and when the gap presented itself he displayed tremendous acceleration to put the trial away,” Rawiller said.
“I thought his trial was terrific, he could be the perfect Epsom Handicap horse.”
“I was really impressed with him.”
Waterhouse is still overseas and Spring plans haven’t been finalised but the Group 1 $500,000 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on October 6 is a likely target.
