The Caulfield 1000m track record could be under threat if flying machine Lord Of The Sky gets his own way in the Listed $120,000 Robert Taranto W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m)  on Saturday.

Lord Of The Sky scored his third win from four starts when he ran 57.12s over the 1000m at Caulfield on January 15 and trainer Robbie Laing said that the time recorded doesn’t tell the complete story.

On a day that the thermometer in Melbourne reached forty-three degrees, the front running three year old was forced to head to the outside fence because of the way the track was playing and in reality Laing said that he probably ran 1050m.

Lucky Secret’s 1000m record of 55.92s could come under threat if Lord Of The Sky sets a solid pace up against the rail in what is panning out to be a near perfect racing surface.

“I thought that it was a little bit understated, he’s run 57.1s around the outside rail on ground that could be described as less than perfect,” Laing told the Sportsman.

“Even with fifty metres to go when Patrick Moloney went to get busy he laid in and then had to swap hands and was zig zagging all over the track.”

“He would have run a dazzling time around the inside rail on a good 3, which it should have been given it was forty-three degrees.”

Premiership winning jockey Glen Boss takes over on Lord Of The Sky whose all three wins have been over to Caulfield 1000m course.

And Laing is comfortable for Boss to let the Danerich colt set a sizzling pace even though he is stepping up to Listed company for the first.

“I don’t know whether I should be worried about them or whether they should be worried about me,” Laing said.

“They take him on at their own risk.”

“If they want to go one hundred miles an hour he can sit off them but if they want to take hold he’ll be quite happy to roll along.

“He would have led them a merry dance in the 1200m three year old race but keeping his work short and sharp and keeping him fresh has been a winning recipe for his last three runs.”

“They are better to park off him and see if they can gun him down late but it doesn’t seem to matter. He still ran 11.1s his last furlong the other day after scouting the outside rail.”

If Lord Of The Sky can chalk up his fourth win, Laing will be tempted to raise the bar again and has thoughts of running the speedster in the Group 1 $400,000 Sportingbet Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.

Market framers have Lord Of The Sky the $2.20 favourite for the W.J. Adams Stakes ahead of the other track specialist African Pulse at $4.60  and smart mare Shamal Wind at $8.

Vatican, also a last start winner over the course and distance is marked as a $13 chance.
