Let It Slip upset the well-backed Celebrity Dream to record a surprise win in the 2015 Placid Ark Stakes at Ascot this afternoon.
The first four races on Super Saturday at Ascot have been dominated by horses on the pace and the majority of the field were keen to take up the running in the early stages of the race, which meant that the race was run at a breakneck speed.
Jockey Peter Hall elected to settle Let It Slip just behind the speed, but he produced the daughter of Not A Single Doubt at the perfect time and she finished over the top of his rivals to record an impressive win from Yoshi Noxious and Mystic Maid.
Let It Slip made her racing debut with a second place finish at Bunbury on April 15 and she started her summer campaign with a second place finish in the Westspeed Plate (1200m) at Belmont Park on September 26 before she made up ground late at the same venue on October 7.
She recorded her maiden race win with a strong effort in the Adia Handicap (1000m) at Ascot on October 21 and she went into the Placid Ark Stakes on the back off of a third place finish in the Amelia Park Plate (1200m) on November 7.
Celebrity Dream started the Placid Ark Stakes as an odds-on favourite and she was considered the good thing of the day after she started her racing win with two wins from as many starts.
The daughter of Thorn Park was settled just behind the speed in the early stages of the Placid Ark Stakes and she received a lovely trail into the race, but jockey William Pike was unable to find clear running for the filly in the straight and she was badly checked before she battled home to beat home less than a handful of runners.
The Placid Ark Stakes has been a fairly strong form race in recent years and it has been previously taken out by the likes of Petrol Power (2013), Miss Bux (2012), Group 1 runner-up Watermans Bay (2011), Black Felix (2010), Kid Choisir (2009), Liquidation (2008), My Time (2007), Reflective Star (2006) and Metallic Storm (2005).
Hall has been booked to ride Tower Of Lonhro in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and he will finish the card on Raising Dubai in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m).
