Fans of Rolling Pin face a test of their courage this weekend when the four year old lines up in the fourth event on the Warwick Farm program.

Rolling Pin has been a favourite of punters throughout most of his career, especially during his current preparation.

His overall record shows six wins and five placings from 16 starts and up until his last run he’d only missed the money once from the previous nine.

That last start is the issue though, Rolling Pin crashing back to earth with a hugely disappointing seventh in just a nine horse field over 1500m at Rosehill.

He’s only been given a week to recover before being stepped up to the mile this Saturday.

The question for punters is whether you can find excuses for his last start flop or whether he’s just not the same horse.

For those looking for excuses you could argue he’s not suited on slow ground, the fact he took a sit and didn’t find the front, the interference he struck at the 200m or the drop in trip back from 1800m.

Working against him is that he has won convincingly on both slow and heavy ground before and 1500m is usually right in his sweet spot for ideal distance.

Most notably however is that this horse has been in work since September of last year.

This long campaign combined with the quick backup will have many wondering whether he’ll have the toe to match it with some of his rivals.

They’re a good bunch too, Skateboard, Thumbtacks and Sienna Red are just a few of the 11 contenders he’ll have to beat if he’s to win at Warwick Farm.

There’s no doubting that Rolling Pin has been a good friend to punters throughout his career but is it a friendship that needs to be put on ice for a couple of months? Only time will tell.
