A refreshed and healed Glyn Schofield is looking forward to his return to the saddle at Rosehill on Saturday after being forced to take a break after suffering severe facial injuries resulting from a fall in May.

Schofield was thrown heavily from the Joe Pride trained Fun For All before the filly was due to trial at Warwick Farm on May 19 and sustained several broken bones to his face.

The Group 1 winning jockey suffered several facial fractures in his eye sockets, both cheekbones, his palet and nose, but luckily escaped any surgery.

“There’s quite a few breaks, but none of the bones have moved so I don’t need to have any surgery which is good. I’ll just leave it to mother nature to heal them,” Schofield told News Limited shortly after the accident.

But Schofield has returned from an overseas holiday and is fit and keen to make his return to the racetrack and prepare for the up-coming Spring Carnival.

“There was a bit of nerve damage and there’s still quite a bit of numbness, but the pain’s gone,” Schofield told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“I wouldn’t have gone hell for leather in winter and probably would have taken a bit of time off anyway. In one aspect it’s given me a good freshen-up before the spring and a really good break, but I’m really looking forward to getting back into it.”

One of Schofield’s early Saturday rides and Spring Carnival prospects is the Lee Curtis trained filly Press Report who is resuming in the $85,000 2yo Handicap (1200m).

Schofield has a high opinion of the two year old after partnering her at all her four race starts to date and can see her developing into a handy three year old in the Spring.

“If she’s taken some progress and improved from her spell she’ll be a very smart filly to be going into the spring with. She has a lot to learn and hopefully she has learnt from that,” Schofield said.

“She was tall, lanky and quite narrow so she probably has three-year-old written all over her.”

Press Report has been placed twice from her four starts and ran second to Memorial on debut in November and then returned from a break to be runner up again to Golden Slipper winner Mossfun in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 1.

Press Report was unplaced at her next two starts before being sent for a spell but showed that she is on track for a successful Spring with a comfortable trial win over 900m at Rosehill on July 7.

Schofield was quick to study the barrier trial win on his return from Europe and was pleased with what he saw.

“I had a look at the trial and it looked like she trialled pretty well,” Schofield said.

“Obviously trials are just an indication and she obviously does have good ability.”

Press Report is only one of ten two year olds nominated for Saturday with the Gerald Ryan trained Inz’N’Out looking as one of the hardest to beat.

The lightly raced Inz’N’Out won at  his first two starts at Gosford and Randwick before a last start second to the Chris Waller trained Winx over 1400m at Rosehill on June 28.

In early markets for the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11 Press Report is rated a $51 chance with Ladbrokes.com.au.
