Greg Hickman will tempt fate when he saddles up quick-tempered four-year-old Girls Go Racing in the Harris Farm Handicap at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday.

Girls Go Racing chose to behave last start when she won by half a head at Randwick, however, that was not the case when she finished sixth at Rosehill on May 21.

“I was flat out to saddle her up that day, she can be a bit like that,” Hickman said.

“She just gets wound up a bit on race day but she’s pretty good around the stables.”

Hickman said that Girls Go Racing expects to receive top-class treatment come race day.

“She likes to be treated like a queen, or I should say she expects to be treated like a queen,” he said.

Despite throwing the odd temper tantrum, Girls Go Racing has already won three of her races this preparation.

The Marechal mare has won over $175,000 so far for her grateful connections and has been triumphant in multiple city races.

Apprentice jockeys have been aboard Girls Go Racing on all seven of her career wins.

The young Blake Spriggs will hope to continue the pattern when he rides the mare this weekend.

“A lot of apprentices seem to ride this mare and win on her,” Hickman said.

“She seems to run for the boys.”

Girls Go Racing will be stepping up in grade for this Saturday’s race at Rosehill, however, the mare has been treated kindly by the handicapper and will carry just 51 kilograms.
