Foreteller to head to BMW after Ranvet win

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller will be searching for another Group 1 win for Foreteller later in The BMW Sydney Carnival after the six year old took out the Group 1 $400,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill today.

Waller was able to turn around Foreteller’s last start disappointing 7th in the Group 1 $1m Darley Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington two weeks ago and provide Jim Cassidy with his ninety-sixth Group 1 victory.

The master jockey had Foreteller travelling sweetly midfield while Peter Robl on favourite Fiveandahalfstar was bowling along out in front.

When Robl let the three year old stride to a three length lead at the 250m, the weight for age race looked all over but Cassidy was able to lift Foreteller and score a great Group 1 victory.

“The Australian Cup was run under break neck speed, today gave our horse a chance to be a little bit more composed,” Waller said.

“Today he was able to be ridden suitably and that’s just Sydney racing. Great ride Jim Cassidy.”

“Jim Cassidy when you see him unleash over the last 200m he actually can lift a horse, it’s just amazing to watch.”

Foreteller is now on target for the Group 1 $2.25m The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill in two weeks and Waller is keen to test the six year old over 2400m on his home track.

“In two weeks time, his home track, two and half million dollar BMW, they don’t come around every second day,” Waller said.

The Anthony Cummings trained Fiveandahalfstar was set to keep the punters happy after being backed into the $2.60 favourite but couldn’t hold off the strong finish of Foreteller ($31).

Top Kiwi mare Silent Achiever ($3.70) had a good run midfield but once again failed to figure in the finish in Sydney and wound up in fifth spot.
