Flying Snitzel one to watch

Trainer Gerald Ryan unleashed a potential Golden Slipper candidate at Canterbury yesterday when first starter Flying Snitzel played with rivals to win the Australian Turf Club Maiden (1200m).

Punters sent Flying Snitzel out as $2 favourite after two impressive trial wins and she reproduced on race day.

The daughter of Snitzel, who was also trained by Ryan, led throughout for a 3 1/4-length win leading Ryan to describe her as a “little professional”.

“She’s a nice filly who just keeps improving,” he said.

“I might look at a race for her at Rosehill on Boxing Day.

“Whether she is good enough for the autumn races, only time will tell.”

Flying Snitzel is owned by Triple Crown Syndications run by Michael and Chris Ward.

They just paid $25,000 at the Melbourne Inglis Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year.

The syndicate also raced Hot Snitzel, Miss Independent and Patronyme among others.

She is eligible for countless bonuses as part of the Inglis Race Series.

One of the major features of the $2.6 million series comes up on Saturday week with the running of the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m).

But the syndicate could have easily been going for the Magic Millions with the one that got away.

The Wards were the under bidders to star Brisbane two-year-old Sizzling, also by Snitzel.

Yesterday, jockey Corey Brown was the Canterbury twilight meeting highlighted.

Brown won on horses in all four quaddie races which has many thinking he is the first to do that at a metro track.
