Trainer Tony Gollan will now head to the Sunshine Coast with Alma’s Fury after the new stable acquisition scored a gutsy win in the Listed $175,000 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes(1350m) at Ipswich last Saturday.

Alma’s Fury was only having his second race start for Gollan after being transferred from Kembla Grange trainer Paul Murray and appreciated the huge drop in class after running seventh to Sacred Star in the in the Group 2 $175,000 Magic Millions QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on May 31.

Gollan was quick to praise Murray after the six year old arrived at his stable in top condition and will now head to the Sunshine Coast in a fortnight for the Listed $175,000 Reed Property Group Glasshouse Handicap (1400m).

“I want to pay tribute to Paul. the horse arrived in great condition and we were able to get right on with it,” Gollan said after the Eye Liner Stakes win on Saturday.

“I thought Alma’s Fury’s first run for us in the QTC Cup was great and we drew a good alley today (Saturday) which meant Jim could ride him with a sit. Then again things didn’t exactly work out as we planned to be swooping on the corner.”

Alma’s Fury, the winner of seven races, has competed at Group 1 level without success but has a Group 2 victory to his credit after winning the $250,000 Schweppes Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm in February 2013.

Top Brisbane rider Jim Byrne wrapped up a winning treble with Alma’s Fury nose win and went so close to make it four wins for the day after running second on Noisy Ocean to Brave Ali in the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m).

Byrne scored earlier in the day on the Matthew Dunn trained La Tikka Rosa in the 1100m Ray White Ipswich Dash Class 6 Plate and then took out one of the other feature races with the Mick Price trained Jazz Song winning the Listed $100,000 Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m).
