Disposition may not look like a Group 1 winner in the making, but trainer Wez Hunter is hopeful that the talented gelding can stamp himself as a genuine Australian Guineas contender by winning the 2015 CS Hayes Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Disposition was sent to the Hunter stable in January for an Australian Guineas campaign after he finished second in both the Group 2 Western Australian Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) during the 2014 Perth Summer Racing Carnival and has impressed his new trainer with his work, but not his physical appearance, leading into his racing debut on the Eastern seaboard of Australia in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m).

“He doesn’t look like a good horse,” Hunter said.

“Most good horses really look like a strong good horse and if I told you he was a benchmark 64 horse that got beaten at Stoney Creek on the weekend you would believe me.

“He just has a motor and he is tough.

“He is by Reset and he just has that little bit of Zabeel in him where he is intense and fired up.

“In his trials and in his work at home he is just a real racehorse.

“You never know until you out them under pressure on raceday, but I don’t know if we have seen the best of him.”

Disposition has shown a great deal of versatility during his racing career to date and he was ridden just behind the leaders when he finished an extremely close second behind Moriarty in the Kingston Town Classic at Ascot on December 6.

The Reset gelding has shown that he has an impressive turn-of-foot at his disposal when settled off the pace, but Hunter revealed that three-year-old would likely be settled close to the speed by jockey Craig Williams in the 2015 CS Hayes Stakes.

“He went forward in the Kingston Town,” Hunter said.

“Most of the sprint races earlier in his career he went back and had a devastating turn-of-foot, but from the gate I wouldn’t imagine that Craig would want to give away too much of a start.

“I’d say that he will be just behind the speed.

“It is a bloody good race this, so we will know exactly where we sit on Saturday night.”

Disposition is currently available at 2015 CS Hayes Stakes odds of $5.50 with Ladbrokes, while Lucky Liberty ($4.80) has been a well-backed favourite.
