There will never be another chance to see Black Caviar race but fans have the chance to say goodbye to the champion horse at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Melbourne Racing Club are throwing open the gates for those who wish to bid the all-conquering mare farewell, requesting a gold coin donation in support of breast cancer to gain entry to the course.

Black Caviar will parade before race seven which is scheduled to jump at 1:55pm (AEST).

MRC chief executive Alisdair Robertson described Black Caviar as “the horse of a lifetime” and said Saturday will be a fitting tribute to her astonishing feats on the track.

“Black Caviar is the horse of a lifetime, of many lifetimes, and we’d love as many people as possible to come to Caulfield and celebrate her magnificent career at her home track,” Robertson said.

“As sad as this occasion is in terms of the realisation that we have seen her race for the last time, it is also a fabulous opportunity to rejoice in a horse that has transcended racing and has become an icon of Australian society.”

Trainer Peter Moody and Black Caviar’s owners pulled down the curtain on her phenomenal career on Wednesday, resisting the temptation to return to Royal Ascot or push on for another spring.

“She’s in such great shape and that’s the way we wanted her to bow out,” Moody said.

“We thought long and hard about racing on for another season, we thought about Ascot, we thought about Brisbane, we thought about Adelaide.

“We believe she’s done everything we’ve asked her to do and it’s the right time to call it a day on one of the best horses we’ve ever seen.”
