Trainer Gerald Ryan will trial Break Card as a stayer for the first time in her career this Saturday in the Listed Premier’s Cup at Rosehill Gardens.

The 1,800 metre race will be the four-year-old mare’s first attempt past the mile.

“If we’re going to have a crack at it we may as well do it on her home track,” Ryan said.

“We’ve always thought she might run a bit of a journey but we’ve just never tried her over one.

“Her pedigree says she will run a journey and Jay Ford has ridden her at her last couple and he reckons she’s been needing further.”

Break Card will have to contest with the likes of European Group 1 winner Alandi and The BMW runner-up Mourayan in Saturday’s Premier’s Cup.

Ryan will also run two other horses at Rosehill this Saturday, including three-year-old filly Hollyweird.

Hollyweird will run in the 1,100 metre Keune Handicap in what will be just her second race this preparation.

“We want to go to the Heritage (Stakes) with her but that would have meant a month between runs so we decided to take on the older mares on Saturday,” Ryan said.

“She’s done really well.”

Ryan will also run Schiffer in the Sealy Posturepedic Handicap as a trial for the Group 2 Furious Stakes on September 3.

“She was scratched last Saturday due to the heavy track so she’s going into Saturday with five weeks between runs and stepping up to 1400 metres,” Ryan said.

“It’s uncharted waters for her.

“We’ve always thought she will run 1400, she’s very fit and well in herself and Saturday will give us a good line on her.”
