Tommy Berry will make another flying trip back from Hong Kong to ride Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Berry is looking to team up with Gai Waterhouse again for another Group 1 win after the pair combined with Almalad to win the $500,000 Tatts Group J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

The high flying Berry rode a treble for Waterhouse that day and apart from Almalad, was successful on two year old Sports Edition in the Listed $100,000 Ambassador Travel Hampden Stakes (1200m) and on Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 2 $200,000 VIRBAC Animal Health Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m).

Cosmic Endeavour has held her form well all through the Autumn leading into the Winter Carnival with three wins including a win for Berry in the Group 2 $300,000 Drummond Golf Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 19 and a win for Kerrin McEvoy in the $400,000 Inglis 3yo Guineas (1400m) at Scone on May 17.

“I won a Group 2 on her just before I went to Hong Kong and she has continued to hold her form from winning at Scone,” Berry said.

“She is consistent, relaxed. You can put her whenever you want in the race and she gives you her heart and soul every time she goes around and that is all you can ask of her.”

Cosmic Endeavour beat stablemate Driefontein in the Dane Ripper Stakes and the pair are set to clash again in the Tattersall’s Tiara.

Stable foreman Mark Newnham said that Cosmic Endeavour had continued to improve throughout the Autumn and Winter and is shaping as a high quality Spring Carnival mare with the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 1 a likely target.

“Cosmic Endeavour has shown right through the Sydney Carnival that she is going to make a top mare and she is producing now,” Newnham said.

“When she gets good tracks, she just has that little bit better turn-of-foot; even though she has been able to win on soft ground, she is just a couple of lengths better on the better tracks.

“She could develop into a mare that could run in the better races like the Myer over the Spring Carnival.”

The Tattersall’s Tiara is developing into a hotly contested Group 1 for the fillies and the mares with all first six placegetters of the Dane Ripper Stakes in the early nominations.

Also nominated are the Chris Waller trio of Red Tracer, Catkins and She’s Clean as well as Group 1 winner Steps In Time and Stradbroke Handicap third placegetter Srikandi.

Srikandi and Red Tracer are both coming off a run in the Group 1 $1.36m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7 where Srikandi finished third to River Lad and Temple Of Boom while Waller’s mare came home in tenth spot.

Catkins looks set to take her place in the field after recovering from a minor leg injury that kept her out of the Dane Ripper Stakes while She’s Clean will be stepping up dramatically in class after finishing fifth to Ellawisdom in the Listed $100,000 Channel Seven Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm on May 31.

While Steps In Time will be having her first start since running thirteenth to Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 12 but has been tuned up with an 800m Warwick Farm barrier win on June 13.
