Adebisi Galaxy Bound

Queensland gelding Adebisi will bypass Brisbane’s top winter races and will instead continue his southern campaign in the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 30.

The winter carnival regular is back at trainer Desleigh Forster’s Eagle Farm base after running fifth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield last month.

Speaking after watching Queensland Derby hopeful Carmora salute at Doomben on Saturday, Forster said she was not disappointed with the speedster’s effort in the Oakleigh Plate but admitted he struggled to gain rhythm in what was just his second start in the Melbourne direction.

“His run in the Oakleigh Plate wasn’t too bad,” Forster said.

“He was always on the wrong leg and he just didn’t get around the Caulfield corners.”

Before the Group 1 hit-out Adebisi won the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield and the Listed Razor Sharp Quality at Warwick Farm.

The five-year-old has been Forster’s stable star in recent times, having won 10 of 34 starts and collected more than $650,000 in prizemoney.

The Eagle Farm trainer has just 10 horses in her stable and is hopeful Carmora can join Adebisi as a Group 1 contender.

“When he comes back I’ll aim him for a few distance races like the Grand Prix to see if he’ll stay and if he does he’ll go for the Queensland Derby,” Forster said.

The three-year-old gelding is yet to be tested beyond 1600m in three unbeaten starts but Forster is confident his breeding will see him handle longer distances in the future.

“He’s a typical Stromberg Carlson whose breed all want to get over ground and he’ll stay all day,” she said.
