The 2016 Futurity Stakes field has been released and 11 talented gallopers are set to contest the Group 1 event that will be held at Caulfield on Saturday.
Turn Me Loose took up the running before tiring late when he returned to the races in the Group 1 Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 13, but he lost no admirers following his brave performance after he produced a sectional of 21.99 from the 1200 to 800 metre mark.
The Iffraaj entire has an excellent second-up, while should be able to cross the field and take up the lead after being allocated barrier ten, factors that have the Emirates Stakes winner as a clear Futurity Stakes favourite.
Suavito got the better of Turn Me Loose to win the Orr Stakes and the talented mare will have the chance to beat her rival again in the Futurity Stakes.
The daughter of Thorn Park received an ideal run in transit in the Orr Stakes and she is set to score a similar run in the Futurity Stakes when she jumps from barrier three with Luke Currie in the saddle once again.
The Orr Stakes is set to be the key form reference for the Futurity Stakes and Hucklebuck (third in the Orr Stakes), Rebel Dane (fifth), Boban (sixth), Stratum Star (seventh), Trust In A Gust (eighth) and Entirely Platinum (15th) are set to back-up in the Futurity Stakes this weekend.
One of the most interesting horses in the Futurity Stakes field is Politeness, who finished a very close second behind Turn Me Loose in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1400m) at the end of the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.
Politeness was no match for Heatherly when she returned to the races in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on February 13, but she will be better suited by the step-up to 1400 metres for the Futurity Stakes.
Another interesting runner in the Futurity Stakes field is Scissor Kick, who has not been seen at the races since he suffered an injury in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
Scissor Kick struggled with bone-bruising in recent months, but trainer Paul Messara has nursed him back to full health and he performed well in a barrier trial over 990 metres ay Cranbourne on February 8.
The 2016 Futurity Stakes field is rounded out by The United States, who has not been seen at the races since he finished 14th behind Prince Of Penzance in the 2015 Melbourne Cup.
