Crown Oaks winner  Mosheen let the punters down at Flemington today when the short priced favourite was collared on the line by Shopaholic in the Group 3 $150,000 The Vanity (1410m).

Mosheen seemed to have the race well in her keeping when jockey Danny Nikolic let her coast to the  front as heads were turned for home but she appeared to be in trouble at the 250m when the challengers started to come.

Craig Williams on Angel Of Mercy was first to attack Mosheen ($1.45 fav) then Dwayne Dunn pushed up the middle of the two fillies and lifted Shopaholic to get her home in a three way photo.

With only a nose and nose separating the three fillies Shopaholic ($14) was able to nudge out the short priced favourite and give trainer Danny O’Brien a good leg up for the rest of the carnival.

“Mosheen was obviously the testing material in the Spring along with Atlantic Jewel but my filly is catching up to them now and she did a very good job,” O’Brien said.

“I knew the filly was in great order. She had a nice win first start  and has come on super. She got a good ride from Dwayne today, peeled into the right lane, she was tough and applied to the finish.”

O’Brien will now head to the Group 2 $180,000 D’Urban Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 25 and the Group 2 $300,000 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 10.

“I had a very big opinion of her since she came over from New Zealand. She was travelling well today and I thought I had the Mosheen covered on the home turn  and I thought I would pick her up easier than I did and never got to the front until right on the line,” Dunn said.
