The 2017 Sheraco Stakes is a Group 3 sprinting event held at one of Sydney’s most illustrious racecourses, Rosehill Gardens.
Raced over 1200m, the Sheraco Stakes provides a genuine sprinting test for fillies and mares aged three years old and above. With $150,000 in prize money available, the Sheraco Stakes is a lucrative event for those horses that run well.
Due to the gender and age restrictions on the race, along with the set weights plus penalties conditions, the Sheraco Stakes acts as a great form guide. As it’s usually a fairly even bout, the Sheraco Stakes tends to show off all the fillies and mares in the best light possible, and certainly removes some doubt when it comes to later 1200m events.
Horses often have a crack at the Concorde Stakes or the Tramway Handicap prior to heading to the Sheraco Stakes. The Tea Rose Stakes and The Shorts act as great stepping stones following the Sheraco Stakes.
The Sheraco Stakes is named after 1982 Australian Oaks winner Sheraco, who was quite a successful filly. The inaugural edition of the race was held in 1998, with Patou winning. The Sheraco Stakes was upgraded to listed status in 2000 after running for only two years. This was followed in 2013 by an upgrade to Group 3. Prior to becoming a Group 3 event, the Sheraco Stakes ran over 1100m.
