The 2017 Gold Coast Guineas is a Group 3 race held on the beautiful Gold Coast annually in May. Situated just out of Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast Racecourse is in a prime location and attracts good crowds.

The 2017 Gold Coast Guineas is for three year olds and is run over a trip of 1200m. Horses receive set weights and battle it out for $125,000 in prize money.

The race is held on the same card as the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes, the biggest day for the coast over the winter period.

Many of the horses running here will be on trial for the Brisbane winter carnival that gets underway around the same time just up the highway.

Something like the Fred Best Classic would be a good follow on over 1200m at Group 3 level at Doomben.

In recent years two horses have completed that double, Gold Edition in 2007 and El Cambio in 2008.

Horses can come to this race from absolutely anywhere and there’s usually a mix of locals against those travelling down from the rest of Queensland and up from the southern states.

The Gold Coast Guineas was first run in the year 2000 and recent winners include Beethog in 2010 and Military Rose in 2011.
