Pasadena Girl stamped herself as one of the most talented fillies in the country when she took out the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and she has performed well without winning in both the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5 and the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 26.
Moody revealed that Pasadena Girl did not even need to have two lead-up runs this preparation to be ready for the 2015 Thousand Guineas and he is confident that the Savabeel filly can return to winning form this weekend.
“When you see her in the yard tomorrow I think that you will really appreciate how much she has come on,” Moody told Racing Ahead.
“She has come on a lot from her last run and I sort of let her train herself.
“She didn’t need a 1200 or a 1400, she could have run in this race first-up, but rather than have to keep her up to the mark at home we have used those runs as conditioning runs.
“Each time she has run very well and she goes there tomorrow not at her top, but well enough to win the race.”
Vlad Duric partnered Pasadena Girl in her two race starts to date this preparation, but leading Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman is set to reunite with the talented filly in the Thousand Guineas.
Moody said that he was happy with the rides that Duric had given Pasadena Girl, but he could not pass up the opportunity to have one of the best jockeys in the country partner his star filly in the Group 1 event.
“I don’t think that Vlad has done too much wrong on her,” Moody said.
“She didn’t have a lot of luck the other day at an unsuitable day, but the face that Hugh had that Group 1 win on her meant that we always had in the back of our mind that he would ride her if he was available here for the spring.
“I will leave it up to him, I don’t want to confuse the issue.
“There might be a little bit of tempo through the Phillip Stokes filly and it will be run at a good even tempo.
“She will be in the second half nearer to last than first, but hopefully with an unimpeded ride she will be very strong to the line.”
