First up specialist Missrock is primed to take on some of the nation’s top sprinters in the Group 1 $750,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
All of Missrock’s four wins have been first up and trainer Robbie Laing said that the Fastnet Rock mare is ready to perform at her best again when she kicks off her Autumn Carnival campaign in the dash down the Flemington straight.
Missrock was spelled after finishing ninth to Redzel in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on the last day of the 2017 Melbourne Cup Carnival and she will be lining up against the Team Snowden trained speedster again the Black Caviar Lightning.
Laing wrapped up Missrock’s preparation with an easy barrier trial at Cranbourne on February 5 which saw her finish third over 800m.
“We were conscious to hold her together and leave plenty in reserve,” Laing told AAP.
“She’s performs brilliantly first-up and we didn’t want her to go out and do something like she would on a race day.
“She’s right on target and I know it’s a top field and she’ll want to be at her top, but her top always seems to be first-up.”
“She’s a big strong girl and everything has gone right this preparation.”
Missrock was a winner down the famous Flemington straight twelve months ago with a first up victory over 1100m against the Fillies and Mares while her latest win was when she raced fresh to beat Heartherly in the Listed $120,000 SAJ Fruit Supply Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at The Valley on August last Spring.
